Summer Camptastic

Hey All, Troop 782 had a great summer camp experience last week up at the High Uintah Wilderness Camp in Windy Park (past Vernal) Utah. The previous week got a ton of rain and everything was soggy when we got up there. We set up camp and all the boys and AJ went and got their swim check in the freezing lake and started in on their merit badge classes. The boys earned a lot of merit badges and learned how to have fun with other troops, how to have fun, how to sleep in a wilderness shelter, how to be serious and how to be spiritual. Here are some photographic highlights.

Just ask AJ the staff skits and songs can get a little painful. Da moose Da moose... OUCH!

Getting strated on the leather working badge.

Adreck tipped the canoe over before he even got it into the lake. NICE!
 Now they have it together.

One of the sudden thunder storms that poured for ten minutes and then was done.

Gallon challenge. It's only impossible for wimps and other people. Note to self, "pacing yourself makes it worse. Just chug from the get go!" That way there is more to spew when your stomach figures it out.

Wade and Gavin get their shelter framed out.

Then add the pine branches for warmth and rain shedage. The first night Wade and Gavin slept in it. They had so much fun that Lito, Hunter and Adreck decided to join them on the second night. 5 in a two man shelter made for a few cranky boys in the morning. I've got to hand it to them for sticking it out though!

Here is the other shelter that they started but I don't think that anyone slept in it.

Rifle range was a hit and so was the archery range.

Here are the arrows that they made for the merit badge. Where are the little tiny bows to shoot these? That's what I want to know.

The DNR took the boys fishing for an hour on the lake. Most of the boys caught something.

Here are the Polar dippers returning from their 6am jump in the lake. They said that the lake was warmer than the air. I think that the frost on the ground was good conformation.

Each polar dipper got a very pungent rabbit's fur to commemorate their chilling achievement.

Wahoo 782! what a great week at camp!
